Stents to treat Bypass Grafts

Bypass surgery is an effective way to treat coronary artery disease but typically the grafts re-narrow or block 5 to 10 years after surgery. Blood flow through bypass grafts can be restored using angioplasty and stent procedures, and often requires the use of specifically designed equipment. The new Over and Under stent is a covered stent developed to treat vein grafts, and is now available in the UK.

Drug Eluting Balloons to Treat Small Vessels

Vessels narrower than 2.25mm in diameter are too small to be treated with stents, but narrowings in such arteries may cause angina. The new Dior drug eluting balloon provides a new treatment option for such vessels. This new technology in Dior can also be used in certain patients and lesions in other arteries for treatment without the implantation of a stent.

The Dior drug eluting balloon has also been proven to improve outcome in narrowings that have reformed in coronary stents. Renarrowing or restenosis occurs in around 15% of stents and is currently treated by implantation of another stent inside the first.

The Dior balloon is now available in the UK. Please contact Dr Qasim's PA at pa@privatecardioloogy.com or 0208 401 3812 for further information or to book a consultation.
